This week in pictures

With GEO’s contract set to expire just over a week from now (March 1), the membership has stepped up visibility and discussions of contract priorities. At last night’s membership meeting, we voted to extend the contract’s coverage by two weeks (read the Daily article here, and we voted on a strike platform. The Rackham amphitheater was packed with excited GEO members:

MM 2
We also staged a GRADE-IN in Haven Hall yesterday, which was a great success, showing faculty, students, and passersby that GEO makes this university work!

And, at last week’s VALENTINE’S DAY bargaining session, Students Organizing for Labor Equality (SOLE) presented GEO with a special show of solidarity:

The last BARGAINING SESSION before spring break is TODAY, from 11-5 in Palmer Commons, Great Lakes Room. Come show your solidarity!

Welcome Back

Although we will all certainly miss the summer days, we are also excited to see old friends and meet new ones! There’s a lot to do this year — most importantly, we need to defend our contract and start preparing to negotiate our next one. That’s a lot of work, and the best way to get it done is for everyone to help just a little bit to ensure that we continue to make the University of Michigan one of the best places to be a GSI.

But…we also need to have a little bit of fun. So, stop by the GEO office on Tuesday evening, September 5 at 6:00pm. There will be pizza, beer, non-alcoholic beverages, T-shirts and plenty of copies of the 2006-2007 edition of the GEO planner.

See you there!
