Bargaining 2010-2011

*UPDATE* On March 30, 2011, the membership of GEO ratified the tentative agreement reached by the GEO bargaining team and the University. Once approved by the Regents of the University, the new UM-GEO Agreement will go into effect. See the ratification page for more information.
GEO reached a tentative agreement with the University on March 19, 2011, for a new contract for the years 2011-2014 to replace our current contract, which expired on March 18, 2011, after a two-week extension.  After approved by a general membership meeting on March 23, 2011, the tentative agreement was sent to the general membership for approval by secret ballot.

Bargaining began in December 2010 and generally occured twice a week. GEO’s Bargaining Team, elected by the general membership, was guided in its negotiations by the 2010-11 GEO Bargaining Platform.  The platform was developed and voted on by the general membership during a series of meetings in 2010 (1, 2, 3, 4).

Check out the Bargaining Schedule. Bargaining was open to all members. The Bargaining Team relied on member feedback during caucuses (breaks in negotiations) to help craft responses to the University’s team.
