Samantha Montgomery, President: Sam is entering her forth year in the Psychology and Women’s Studies joint-PhD program. Her research examines the intersections of gender, sexuality, and generation as predictors of political engagement. Previously, Sam served as chair of the organizing committee during the 2010-2011 contract campaign and the GSRA organizing campaign. Chelsea Del Rio, Vice President: Chelsea is a third year Ph.D. student in History, studying 20th century feminist and lesbian politics, gender, and sexuality. She joined GEO in fall 2010, serving first as her department steward then as interim vice president. For over a decade she has worked as an activist on a range of issues including reproductive justice, LGBT rights, child care, ending sexual and domestic violence, and workplace safety and equity. Katie Frank, Organizing Chair: Katie Frank is a third-year PhD student in Communication Studies. Her research interests include (but are not limited to) intersections of race, gender, and sexuality, sequential art and online media, and fandom and media industry studies. Jonathan McLaughlin, Grievance Chair: Jonathan is a fourth-year Ph.D. candidate in the Interdepartmental Program in Greek and Roman History (IPGRH), a joint program in both the History and Classical Studies Departments. His research focuses on the role of the Roman army in instigating social, economic, and cultural change in the Mediterranean world during the period of Roman rule. Jonathan has served as a steward for the History Department (2009 – 2010), a GEO bargaining team member for contract negotiations (2010 – 2011), and is currently a returning Grievance Chair (2010 – present). email: grrrchair@geo3550.org

Serge Farinas, Solidarity and Political Action (SPAC) Committee Co-Chair: Serge is entering his first year in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology PhD program, after finishing a master’s in the same this summer. Very broadly his interests are in plant community ecology, anthropogenic impacts to ecosystems, and the dynamics between ecology and social/environmental justice. In his non academic pursuits, Serge likes to be a general pain in the ass of state capitalists, write music, and engage in other equally anti-social or deviant behavior. email: solidarity@geo3550.org

Amber Cooper, Staff Organizer: Amber has been with GEO since Fall 2009. Previously, she worked for two years as an organizer for the graduate employee union at the University of Illinois-Chicago, and was a member activist both at that local and at MGAA, the graduate employee union at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Amber is a charter member of the Ann Arbor Derby Dimes roller derby squad. Her derby handle is General Strike. email: amber@geo3550.org
Jim McAsey, Staff Organizer: Jim has been with GEO since Summer 2011. Previously, he worked for three years as the Organizing Director for the Graduate Student Employees’ Union and the Research Assistants’ Union, at Stony Brook University. Before that he organized with workers in recuperated, worker-run businesses in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was also the founding Director of Long Island Jobs with Justice.
