TODAY’S NLRB ACTION!!!

The Specter hearings on the NLRB are going on right now! Please support our brothers and sisters in the private sector by taking one minute to participate in the letter writing campaign to congress. Less than 100 people have sent in letters, so let’s make this look more like a MOVEMENT!

1.) The letter to Congress is up on the AFT Legislative Action Center at: http://www.unionvoice.org/campaign/gradassist091504

Please let your members know and encourage as many people to send letters as possible–it is any easy ask and will take little time to do. It would be great to get thousands of letters sent.

Also don’t forget to alert your memberships about the postcard campaign:

2.) Inside the upcoming edition of “On Campus”, there will be a postcard addressed to the NLRB stating our opposition. We are hoping that folks will encourage and facilitate their members’ efforts to send in the cards. If you need extra copies of the edition to have handy in the office or for distribution, we can easily arrange for that-just let me know. I’m told anyone can send in a card, but only our members can receive the lit.

New Planners Are In

Thanks to many hours of hard work by this summer’s planner committee, the 2004-05 30th anniversary GEO planner is printed and looks great! Stop by the office or get ahold of a steward in your department to pick up a copy.

GEO extends an extra-big thanks to Urmila Venkatesh, this year’s editor, and our friends at Partners’ Press, a union print shop here in town that always does a great job and is ever-so-flexible in working with our last-minute adjustments.

New Faces at GEO

GEO has hired two new staff organizers, Ashley Karlin and Urmila Venkatesh, for our contract campaign this year. Urmila was a steward from the Art school and member of the Organizing Committee before finishing her program this year and Ashley joins us from Madison, WI, where she worked for the Tenant Resource Center and organized Whole Foods workers.

Stop by the office to say hello to Ashley and Urmila, as well as Glen Bessemer [staff organizer] and Shyam Sunder Venkatesan [financial manager].
